I seem to have come down with a cold recently, and coupled with my long days in the sun with my job, I haven’t spent much time on anything other than absolute requirements, such as work and sleep.

This has given me some time to consider my work on Colonies, and in particular, my style in how I have gone about writing it.

I’ve decided that proper English rules have little place in expressive fictional writings, as art rarely pays room to standards. For example, my refraining to use such terms as “fast-as-you-can” to declare that something was done in a rush, or “You’ve gotta be kidding.”

I had hoped to create a fictional work with as little grammatical and descriptive ambiguities as possible, but this really makes for a piss-poor read. That, and it isn’t very fun to write.

Still, I’ve decided to carry on, employing my original method to a certain degree. I intend on completing the story, which is not to be the final story, but a draft for me to write the real story from.

This will allow me to iron out various aspects of the plot as I go along, and hopefully create a smoother and more believable product, in the end.

Okay, here’s a quick overview of the story so far.

Two civilizations have been introduced thus-far. Particularly, the Mavitians and the Numitians.

To justify this, characters have been respectively introduced as well. For the Mavitians, a young man named Salukyu, who is a knightly sort of hunter, and his grandfather Gheran, with whome he lives with. On the Numitian side; Liaxa is a girl of approximately the same age as Salukyu who attends a fine arts academy in her city with her best friend Toyo, until eventually deciding to join a military organisation. At this point, Liaxa meets a man by the name of Kitanus, who is responsible for her enrollment procedure, and conveniently, her conclusive commission itself.

Here are a few selected paragraphs of the story so far, which detail a few key details and events of the story:

The Mavitian faction has survived through the tireless cycles of the seasons for the thousands of years which have provided them. Although not as advanced as some of the other factions on the massive world they inhabit, they have adapted their ways to accommodate themselves in their environment. Thriving on crew-worms, cornberries, roots, and any other sort of nourishment in their desolate surroundings, the Mavitians are a shining example of survival.

Some other civilisations and tribes (at least, those aware of the Mavitian existence,) find their way of life rather pitiful. Despite these few groups, the vast majority of outsiders view the Mavitians with a degree of awe. Oh, but of course! In fact, it is rather difficult not to, as demonstrated by simply observing the daily routine of any simple Mavitian.

And, of course, a short introduction of the Numitians:

The Numitians are a comparatively advanced society which happen to occupy much of the coast lining the southern edge of the continent. Indeed, this is the very same continent occupied by the Mavitians. This is nothing to be alarmed about, since several societies share the continent with little or no consequence quite nicely.

More to the point, there has seldom ever been a reason for any one society to make any contact whatsoever with any other society over the past several thousand years. Each society maintains its ways for its own reasons, and each would forbid the thought that any other society could possibly know any better. And so the world carries on..

The Numitian population of this continent known as Galoran, is hovering somewhere around 2,500,000 (two-million-five-hundred-thousand). This is important to note, because the population of Mavitians on Galoran is known to number in excess of 25 billion.

There really is little excuse for this, but suffice it to say the Mavitians have little to speak of in regards to commissioned education, employment, or even single-occupant housing or vehicles, but have perfected the arts of entertainment, alcohol containment, and board games. This suggests a civilisation much older than most societies may have previously foreseen!

Another contributing factor is likely to do with the result of a minor nuclear accident some 1800 years ago which is recorded to have reduced the entire Numitian population to a mere 6000 people. Fact or otherwise, no records are known of regarding Numitian existence before this date of which to compare with.

Despite this, the Numitians have proudly revolted against the cold and unforgiving sting of natural selection, to become a bright, resilient species. Now these mighty creatures span several thousand kilometres of very impressive waterfront property, and possess some of the finest technologies on the continent.

Although not known for being outwardly democratic or even mildly political with other factions, the Numitians have several military organisations operated by several respective government bodies within the Numitian territory. The political system within the Numitian collective operates quite actively, and has come to some interesting conclusions regarding their relationships with surrounding civilisations.

I suppose this is enough information for now, because if I don’t stop myself, I’m liable to divulge the entire story before I can manage to complete it!

I know my writing style is poor at best, but I really hope by posting pieces of it, people can provide some constructive input which would serve to assist me in improving my work.

I’ve decided to succumb to the hype of blogs, and acquire one for my own purposes.

Well, I haven’t had much of a reason for one, until I had discovered how one might serve to assist in my little writing habit.

I’ve posted a section for my current story effort, and in that section I will be posting progress and commentaries as I go along. Eventually, the story will be published online in some fashion.

Perhaps it will be an isolated incident, but in the event that I continue along this path, I have made room to add new stories as they may come up.

Please remember that I am not a professional writer, and that my abilities with the English language are roughly on par with that of a manual labourer. Feedback is very welcome, and I hope that this will serve to help me improve my works along the way.
